Step 2:
A clean interior

Step 2:

Spring-clean your cockpit to feel good again.

Wet shoes, snow, dampness, and a whole lot of dirt. After the winter, there’s plenty of one thing in particular: dirt.

Whether on mats, pillows, below the seats or on the dashboard – winter leaves its traces everywhere. Often, you’ll find crumbs from the last gas station snack, empty bottles and the odd balled-up receipt in the passenger cell.

All in all, not quite an oasis of wellbeing. It’s about time to spruce up the interior of the car.

Precleaning

What you need:

  • Shopping bag or bin bag
  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Cloth
  • Water

In a first step, collect all garbage that is too big for the vacuum cleaner and throw it in a bin bag.

Before continuing the cleaning of the interior, remove the foot mats and beat them thoroughly.

Then vacuum-clean the entire car: the bottom areas, the seats, dashboard and the stowage spaces, the controls, the air conditioning, the air vents and the boot floor.

Smaller or tougher stains can be easily removed with a cloth and some warm water.

Dust and dirt collect especially fast in all the nooks and crannies in your car. Therefore, don’t neglect the guide rails of the seats or the gaps between the seat and the centre console. Persistent dust and crumbs are optimally blown out with a compressor.

Carpet cleaning

What you need:

  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Pillow and carpet cleaner
  • Scrubbing brush
  • Possibly intensive stain remover for carpets
  • Microfibre cloth

Clean carpets with a vacuum cleaner.
Next, spray the entire carpet area with a carpet cleaner (according to manufacturer specifications) and allow to soak briefly.

Work the cleaner into the carpet using a brush in a circular motion.

For more persistent stains you can additionally use an intensive stain remover.

After cleaning, rub the carpets dry using a microfibre cloth and allow to dry for at least 24 hours in the open air.

For working in the foam we recommend a scrubbing brush. This way, the carpet cleaner can be more effective as it can better penetrate the fibres.

Fabric seat cleaning

What you need:

  • Pillow and carpet cleaner
  • Soft brush
  • Microfibre cloth

Spray pillow cleaner according to manufacturer specifications on the entire seat area and then work the cleaner into the fibres using a soft brush.

To avoid damage to the inside of the upholstery, never soak the seat during cleaning.

Finally, rub all damp spots dry using a microfibre cloth.

Don’t just treat the unpleasant stain, also clean the entire surrounding surface (e.g. the entire back rest or the entire seat). This prevents the formation of water stains after cleaning.

Use a special cleaner for Alcantara fabrics since they are especially delicate.

Leather seat cleaning

What you need:

  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Leather cleaning agents
  • Microfibre cloth
  • Sponge

Before cleaning, note the manufacturer specifications as well as special leather upholstery care instructions (as described in the car manual).

Wipe the seats with a microfibre cloth and special leather cleaning agents to remove stubborn stains.

The leather can be deep cleaned using a sponge or a second microfibre cloth by spraying the cleaning agent on the seats and working it in applying a circular motion.

In a last step, wipe down the seats with a clean and dry microfibre cloth.

Avoid spraying the cleaning agent directly on perforated leather seats, spray on sponge instead.

Plastic care

What you need:

  • Microfibre cloth
  • Water
  • Plastic cleaner

First remove dust using a fuzz-free cloth and some warm water.

Spray the plastic cleaner on a cloth and clean all surfaces. This will ensure the reliable removal of grease or other dirt while going easy on the material.

For gaps you can also use cotton buds or small wooden picks under the cloth. This will ensure the successful removal of dirt residues in hard-to-reach areas.

Windscreen cleaning from inside

What you need:

  • Microfibre cloths
  • Glass cleaner

Spray glass cleaner generously on the windscreen and distribute it across the entire surface using a cloth.

Following this, wipe the windscreen dry using a second cloth.

Rub the windscreen dry until it starts to squeak. That’s when no more cleaning agent is on the windshield.
