Step 9:
Read the signs and take early action – better safe than sorry.
So, you’ve done all the checks, gave the car a good rinse and performed other spring checks, and you were unable to detect any damage, defect or other malfunction. However, there’s a few things you should still take care of before “setting off”.
Undetected flaws may quickly result in bigger, cost-intensive damage. If malfunctions occur, you must visit a specialist workshop.
Engine
In general, the engine should always start up easily, run smoothly, and cause no untypical or conspicuous noises.
As soon as you notice inconsistencies, knocking or rattling noises, we recommend you visit a workshop immediately. Such noises may be a sign for more serious damage.
In the event of any kind of leakage it’s also mandatory to visit a specialist workshop.
Brake test
When braking, the car must not drag towards the left or right, else the brakes require adjustment by an expert.
The brake disks must also be rust-free and not pulsate or drag during the ride.
Gearbox check
In idle state and when the engine is running, the gears must be ease to put in without any scraping noises or “hangs”.
A scraping noise becomes especially noticeable when changing back into second gear.
Shockers
If the tyre thread shows uneven wear such as differing, recessed, wavy or washed-out areas, the shockers must be checked.
If pressing down one corner of the car is followed by 1-2 vibrations or if the ride becomes “squishy”, we recommend checking the shockers. They are often a sign for a defect.
Shockers often wear off only gradually. Therefore, it can happen that a ride which feels “different” becomes normal and the defect goes unnoticed.
